80 families in Brunei receive Zakat Fitrah

TUTONG, Brunei (Borneo Bulletin/ANN) - The Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) recently held a presentation of Zakat Fitrah totalling US$18,532.6 for 80 families in the Tutong District.

The ceremony was held with the participation of Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs and the Vice-President of MUIB, Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar at the RPN Bukit Beruang Mosque.

The cash was taken from individual contributions and property tithes (Zakat Harta) collected last year.

The ceremony was held alongside a Khatam Al-Quran hosted by the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA), to mark the completion of its Tedarus Al-Quran sessions throughout the holy month of Ramadhan.

The Khatam Al-Quran began with a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah by Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom, followed by Al-Quran recitation by guest Imam from Egypt, Sheikh Hassan Metwally Abdelrahman Sewify.

A Tadabbur Al-Quran was delivered by Religious Development Officer at the Islamic Da’wah Centre, Haji Fansuri Sharimi@Mansur bin Mohammad Ali, accompanied by the Doa Khatam, Takhtim, Tahlil and a Doa Arwah.

The event ended with the breaking of fast and the congregational Maghrib prayer.

This year, BND1,173,950 in Zakat Fitrah is being allotted to 6,552 recipients across Brunei.

Also present at the ceremony were Legislative Council member and Penghulu of Kampong Telisai, Yang Berhormat Haji Ramli bin Haji Lahit; Permanent Secretary at MoRA, Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Aziz bin Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Haji Mohd Yusof; Deputy Permanent Secretary (Administrative and Financial Affairs) at the MoRA, Roslan bin Haji Taja’ah; and Deputy Permanent Secretary (Policy and Religious) at the MoRA Haji Mohd Serudin bin Haji Timbang.
