All unemployed graduates in Sri Lanka to be given jobs before March

COLOMBO (The Island/ANN) - Education Minister declares all unemployed graduates, numbering over 50,000, would be provided with jobs before March 1, 2020, under presidential directive.

Education, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Dullas Alahapperuma yesterday said that all unemployed graduates would be provided with jobs before March 1, 2020.

Alahapperuma, addressing a meeting at the SLPP headquarters at Battaramulla, said there were over 50,000 unemployed graduates in the country and the policy decision on employing them would be taken at the next Cabinet meeting.

Alahapperuma said both President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa had advised that jobs should be given regardless of whether they are internal or external graduates.

There age, nationality, religious or party affiliation would not be taken into consideration in employing them.

"In the future graduate Bhikkus will be employed in the teaching profession only and not in the Divisional Secretariat’s or District Secretaries offices" he said.
