Asean Banking Council Meeting delegates attend gala dinner
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/ANN) - The Brunei Association of Banks (BAB) hosted a welcoming dinner last night for more than 150 foreign delegates in the sultanate for the 48th Asean Banking Council Meeting.
The function, held at the Royal Berkshire Hall, Royal Brunei Polo and Riding Club, was attended by guest of honour Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah.
Senior officers from the Ministry of Finance and Economy, representatives from the Autoriti Monetari of Brunei Darussalam (AMBD), members of the Diplomatic Corps, and top banking officials from the country were also present.
The ASEAN Banking Council Meeting, attended by council members, is hosted annually in rotation between the banking associations of each member state.
This year marks the second time Brunei Darussalam will be hosting the meeting.
In his welcoming address, BAB Vice Chairman Abdul Razak bin Abdul Malek highlighted that the ASEAN Banking Council Meeting plays an important role in “uniting all members of banks to collectively drive and facilitate the development and progress of banking and finance in not only their respective countries, but also within the region”.
“The ASEAN region is one of the fastest growing regions and is projected to be the fourth largest economy in the world by 2030. This presents great opportunities for the banking sector,” he added.
Bruneian cultural performances and a spread of delicious local delicacies lit up the evening for the guests.
The two-day ASEAN Banking Council Meeting will come to a close today.
