Bangladeshis in Brunei mark birthday of ‘Father of Nation’

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/ANN) - The Bangladeshi community flocked to the Chancery premises at the Bangladesh High Commission in Brunei Darussalam in Jalan Sungai Akar yesterday to celebrate the 99th birthday of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, known as the ‘Father of the Nation of Bangladesh’, and National Children Day 2019.

Families along with their children donned their best attires to celebrate the occasions with a host of activities and cultural performances.

The celebrations commenced with a recitation of Al-Quran verses followed by a special prayer seeking Allah the Almighty’s blessings that the children may uphold the ideals of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, particularly his patriotism,
love and devotion for his country and people.

Messages of the day from Bangladeshi President Md Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam were read out before a discussion.

The event continued with a screening of a documentary on the life of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The event also saw High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Brunei Darussalam Air Vice Marshal (Rtd) Mahmud Hussain speaking on the milestone of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in a show of respect.

The day also saw a children’s colouring session before a customary cake-cutting ceremony to commemorate
the 99th birthday of Bangladesh’s founding father.

The celebrations were further enlivened with children from the Bangladeshi community reciting poems and singing traditional songs.
