Bhutan Football Federation Academy humbles PUFC 11-3

THIMPHU (Kuensel/ANN) - Bhutan Football Federation (BFF) Academy U-20 thrashed Phuentsholing United FC (PUFC) 11-3 in the ongoing BOB Bhutan Premier League at Phuentsholing yesterday.

In a clear case of dominance, BFF Academy strolled through the first half of the game starting from the kick off. Dorji Khandu’s stunning goal in two minutes gave BFF Academy an early lead.  

BFF Academy with huge ball possession continued attacking. Six minutes later, Tenzin Nobu headed in to double the lead.

PUFC couldn’t capitalise on the few chances they created as poor passing in the final third hampered a goal scoring opportunity. In the 28th minute, BFF academy scored their third when forward Kelzang Jigme scored from the penalty spot. Two minutes after the penalty, it was game over as Karma Tsheltrim scored to make it 4-0.

Buoyed by the goals, BFF kept on pressing and in the 35th minute, Tenzin Norbu scored his second making it 5-0.

Striker Tashi Tobgay became the fourth different scorer and snatched two goals in less than two minutes when he scored a brace in the 43rd and 44th minute to seal the first half 7-0.

BFF picked up from where they left in the first half and within two minutes of the restart, BFF’s Pema Dendup netted the eighth goal.

When it appeared that PUFC had given up, they regrouped and performed better. The tactics worked and striker Kinga Palden scored their first goal in the 58th minute.

Kinga Palden was in the right place in the right time in the 66th minute when he headed in a perfect cross to make it 8-2. Seven minutes later, Kinley Wangchuk won a penalty and scored for PUFC making it 8-3.

BFF restored their normal pace after conceiving three goals and scored three more goals. Kelzang Dorji’s scored in the 78th minute and Karma Tsheltrim scored his second 10 minutes later. In the dying minutes of the game, Kelzang Jigme managed to add his second for the night making it 11-3.

After yesterday’s match, BFF Academy is fourth in the table with 18 points and PUFC is at the bottom without a single point.

As of yesterday, Paro FC leads the table with 27 points followed by Transport United FC and Thimphu City FC with 23 and 19 points respectively.

PUFC, Paro United FC and Druk Stars FC are still in the relegation zone.

Ugyen Academy will face Druk United FC tomorrow at Ugyen Academy’s ground at Punakha and Thimphu City FC will play Druk Star FC at Changlimithang Stadium.
