Brunei’s international festival to showcase Islamic culture, history

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin /ANN) - The Brunei International Islamic Festival (BIIF) will begin on April 4 at the International Convention Centre (ICC), Berakas, Project Supervisor at the Qalby Sdn Bhd Dayangku Fatina binti Pengiran Metussin said. 

She made these comments at a press conference at the Tourism Development Department of the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT) yesterday.

“The festival, held in collaboration with the MPRT and supported by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, is aimed at raising awareness on Islamic culture and history among members of the public,” she said.

“The highlight of the 10-day festival will be the Islamic Artefacts Exhibition. It will showcase more than 18 Islamic artefacts including Prophet Muhammad’s (pbuh) lock of hair (rambut), robe, Tomb Shroud (Kiswah Makam), turban, rida’ as well as other items.”

Other activities include mini exhibitions hosted by foreign embassies and high commissions as well as from Islamic studies institutions that will showcase several aspects of Islamic culture including Islamic art, architectures as well as different Islamic cultures around the world will also be held throughout the festival.

“Religious talks, financial and economic talks, and motivational dialogues with youth associations as well as interactive games activities will also be held,” Dayangku Fatina added.

Tickets for the exhibition will be available from April 4 at the ICC.

Visiting delegations from government departments, schools, associations and mosque youth groups are advised to inform of the visitation to avoid mix-up.

Members of the public are advised to come in proper attire for the festival. The festival will be open to the public from April 4-14 from 9am to 9pm.
