Brunei students leave for brain camp in Singapore

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/ANN) - Four students from Brunei left for Singapore to participate in the annual week-long Singapore Technologies Endowment Programme (STEP) Brain Camp 2019.

Chaperoned by Maktab Duli lecturer Dr Haji Sahrunizam bin Haji Kasah, student representatives Awangku Muhd Izzan bin Pengiran Haji Suhardy, Ahmad Amani Rusyaidi bin Ramli, Dayangku Nur Rosyiidah Apryll Czarina @ Dayangku Siti Fadhillah binti Pengiran Mohammad Fadly and Syafiqah Syahirah binti Emran are participating in the camp from June 9-15 and will also present a research paper on long-term potentiation and long-term depression.

They will participate in a variety of activities that range from attending key scientific lectures, hands-on lab experiments, visit the Science Centre and Centre of Life Sciences (CELS) and hold dialogues with brain experts 
STEP Brain Camp 2019, now in its eighth year,  is organised by the National University of Singapore (NUS) and co-funded by Temasek Foundation International (TF Intl) youth from 10 ASEAN member countries, and Bangladesh, China, India, Japan, South  Korea, Sri Lanka and Chinese Taipei. It aims to inspire and educate secondary and tertiary students on brain research and understanding of brain functions and diseases. It also hopes to foster interaction and friendship between students.  Brunei has been involved in the programme since 2012.

Acting Director of Schools at the Ministry of Education Zainal Abidin bin Haji Kepli, Maktab Duli deputy principals, officers from the school’s Extra Curricular Activities Unit, Department of Schools and lecturers saw the students off at the Brunei International Airport.
