Bruneian charitable organisation visits Malaysia

KOTA KINABALU (Borneo Bulletin/ANN) - Brunei Council on Social Welfare (MKM) organised a members’ vacation to Kota Kinabalu and a working visit to Rumah Amal Kasih, a safe house for orphans and abandoned children, recently.

The aim of the trip was to promote relationships amongst the members that worked hard during the many charitable projects MKM carried out locally and regionally.

President of MKM Mohd Yusof Halim said, “We were able to make a working visit to Rumah Amal Kasih and learnt how they sustain their operations.”

Rumah Amal Kasih was set up six years ago by Ustaz Jamrie bin Saparih and his wife as a way of giving back to society. It occupies two terrace houses in the Kingfisher Complex and housed 24 residents - either orphans or abandon children from three years to 17 years.

Ustaz Jamrie said, “Our first target is to ensure that all our children are attending school. That target was achieved and our second target is to ensure that all our children either get tertiary education or qualification in a trade.”
Four of its former residents are now in university studying Biotechnological Engineering, Business in Transportation and Quantity Surveying.

“It is hoped that these students and those that will follow them will assist in running the home once they graduated,” said Ustaz Jamrie.

Fakhrul Razi, a well-known Bruneian singer whose fame extended to Indonesia and India, was part of MKM’s entourage.  He signed up to be a member of MKM recently. He entertained the children who were excited to meet him.

Fakhrul Razi said, “I was so moved by the work done by MKM both locally and regionally that l felt that it is only right that l join as a member so that l can contribute in whatever ways l can to assist the needy in Brunei and regionally.”

Fakhrul Razi who also joined the MKM entourage to the Rohingya refugee camp earlier this year said that his journey thus far with MKM had been “very fulfilling”.

MKM donated more than RM5,500 to Rumah Amal Kasih and gave goody bag to the residents.
