Bruneian, Malaysian varsities to organise Halal conference in Japan

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/ANN) - A delegation of four officials from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Shah Alam led by Chairman of the Board Directors of UiTM Dato Sri Haji Syed Zainal Abidin bin Syed Mohamed Tahir paid a courtesy visit to Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) yesterday.

Vice Chancellor of UiTM Professor Dr Mohd Azraai Kassim was among the delegates. The delegates were welcomed by UNISSA Rector Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal.

UiTM, one of the largest universities in Malaysia with 35 campus branches all over Malaysia including Sabah and Sarawak, has a close relationship with UNISSA and are strategic partners in organising the Borneo Islamic International Conference (KAIB), a collaboration between UNISSA and UiTM Sabah and Sarawak, and held annually with each country taking turns in hosting the event.

UNISSA through the Halalan Thayyiban Research Centre (PPHT) and UiTM through its Contemporary Islamic Studies Academy (ACIS) will also collaborate in organising the 4th International Halal Conference (INHAC 2019) from April 22-23 in Nakanoshima Centre Building, Osaka University, Japan.

This collaboration is among the matters touched by Dr Haji Norarfan in his welcoming remarks and disclosed that UNISSA has inked a Memorandum of Understanding with UiTM for phase 2 for  five years in May 22, 2017.

As a continuation of the MoU, UiTM sent 11 students to UNISSA to undergo industry training at PPHT in stages for eight weeks, which showed UiTM is committed to strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of education and research.

UNISSA and UiTM also agreed to conduct  an Academic Staff Exchange Programme, students exchange programme, joint coordinating and strengthening of existing programmes aside from engaging in more collaborations for the improvising of the bilateral cooperation.

The visit aimed to empower strategic cooperation that can be further intensified between the two universities and serves as a collaboration platform in contributing expertise in specific fields.

The Deputy Rector and Assistant Rector of UNISSA were also present.
