Cambodia’s electoral turnout out rate this year is better than previous one

PHNOM PENH (Rasmei Kampuchea Daily / ANN) - The 6th legislature of the National Election on July 29, 2018 attracted total 6.74 million voters better than previous in 2013, said the National Election Committee (NEC) Chairman Sik Bun Hok

After 22,967 polling stations in the 25 provinces and capital were opened from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm there were total 6.74 million voter casted their respective ballot to the ballot-box or 80.49 percent of 8.38 million eligible voter, he underlined at the press conference held this evening.

In the 5th legislature of the National Election there were total 9.67 million eligible voters, but the voter turnout rate was only 6.73 million voters or 69.61 percent.

According to the NEC’s Chairman, the preliminary result of the 6th legislature National Election will release from 7:00 pm today until 01:00 am tomorrow by the State TV and Radio, NEC’s online TV and Radio, rms.voterlist.org.kh, and NEC’s Facebook.  

    

This 6th legislature National Election was held in 25 provinces/ Capital for 125 seats, up 3 seats from previous election.   

Banteay Meanchey has 6 seats, Battambang has 8 seats, Kampong Cham 10 seats, Kampong Chhnaing 4 seats, Kampong Speu 6 seats, Kampong Thom 6 seats, Kampot 6 seats, Kandal 11 seats, Koh Kong 1 seat, Kratie 3 seats, Mondulkiri 1 seat, Phnom Penh capital 12 seats, Preah Vihea 1 seat, Prey Veang 11 seats, Pusat 4 seats, Ratanakiri 1 seat, Siem Reap 6 seats, Preah Sihanouk 3 seats, Stung Treng 1 seat, Svay Rieng 5 seats, Takeo 8 seats, Kept 1 seats, Pailin 1 seat, Oddar Meanchey 1 seats, and Tbong Khmum 8 seats.  

Cambodia has held the National Election for 6 times, since the first in 1993, by the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC), then 1998, 2003, 2008, 2013, and 2018   by the National Election Committee (NEC). 

The first National Election was held in 21 provinces/a capital for 120 seats of the National Assembly with 20 political parties by 4.26 million voters or 89.56 percent of total 4.7 eligible voters. Royalists FUNCINPEC party won 58 seats, CPP 51 seats, Buddhist Liberal Democratic Party 10 seats, and Molinaka and Naktaorsou Khmer for Freedom Party 1 seat.

The second National Election was held in 23 provinces/a Capital for 122 seats of the National Assembly by 39 political parties with 5.05 million voters or 93.74 percent of the 5.3 million eligible voters. This was the first National Election run by the National Election Committee of Cambodia. CPP won 64 seats, FUNCIPEC Party got 43 seats, and Sam Rainsy Party got 15 seats.

The third National Election was held in 24 provinces/a capital for 123 seats of the National Assembly with 23 political parties by 5.27 million voters or 83.22 percent of 6.34 million eligible voters. In this election, CPP won 73 seats, FUNCIPEC Party 26 seats, and Sam Rainsy party got 24 seats.

The fourth National Election was held in 24 provinces/a capital for 123 seats of the National Assembly same as the third one, but there were only 11 political parties by 6.11 million voters or 75.21 percent of 8.12 million eligible voters. In this election, CPP won 90 seats, Sam Rainsy Party 26 seats, Human Rights Party 3 seats, Norodom Ranaridth Party 02 seats, and FUNCINPEC 2 seats.

The fifth National Election was held in 24 provinces/ a capital for 123 seats at the National Assembly with 8 political parties by 6.73 million voter or 69.61 percent of 9.67 million eligible voters. In this election CPP won 68 seats, and the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) got 55 seats.
