Cambodia renovates the coastal international airport

PHNOM PENH (Rasmei Kampuchea Daily/ ANN) - The Sihanouk International Airport, a main gateway of the air passenger to the costal province of Cambodia began the terminal renovation project yesterday in order to attract more passengers.

Mr. Nicolas Notebaert, CEO of VINCI Concessions and President of VINCI Airports, the mother company of Cambodia Airports said the extension and renovation of this terminal are part of an ambitious development programme scheduled to be rolled-out in anticipation of traffic build-up in the coming five years.

The main works involved the increase of the building surface, check-in area, boarding lounge, and baggage claim zone etc.

Another major project will soon be launched and aims at extending by 800 metres the airport’s runway to reach 3.3 kilometres. Once completed, the airport will accommodate on a regular basis bigger aircraft and flights from different destinations, he added.

Under a public-private partnership signed with the Royal Government of Cambodia in 1995, Cambodia Airports holds the concession for the development and management of Cambodia’s network of international airports serving the capital city of Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, home to the UNESCO World Heritage Angkor Archeological Complex, and the port city and beach resort of Sihanoukville.
