Combatting drug, human trafficking top talks between Brunei minister, UN official
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/ANN) - Minister of Defence II and Chairman of the National Security Committee Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof received a courtesy call from Executive Director of United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Director–General of the United Nations Office in Vienna, holding the rank of Under-Secretary General of the United Nations Yury Fedotov.
The Minister of Defence II welcomed Fedotov to the country and both sides exchanged views on issues related to UNODC’s mandates and activities in Southeast Asia, including combatting drug and human trafficking, cyber crime, corruption and other violence.
Fedotov will also call on other Cabinet Ministers and senior government officials.
Attorney General Dato Paduka Haji Hairol Arni bin Haji Abdul Majid received Fedotov during a meeting at the Law Building in the capital where they also exchanged views on the trends of transnational crime yesterday.
The Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) and the UNODC yesterday discussed ways to boost cooperation in combatting transnational crime.
Also present were Solicitor General Zuraini binti Haji Sharbawi and senior officials from AGC.
