Coronavirus tally hits 30 in Taiwan with two more cases

TAIPEI (The China Post/ANN)  - Taiwan reported two more cases of the novel coronavirus on Monday, bringing the tally to 30.

Taiwan reported two more cases of the novel coronavirus on Monday, bringing the tally to 30.

The two additional patients are the younger son (case 29) and wife (case 30) of case 27, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) told a press conference.

The three along with case 28, the elder son of case 27, make one of the largest family infection cluster reported in Taiwan so far.

The exact source of contagion is still under investigation, but the CECC suspects that case 29, the youngest of the four, who traveled regularly between Taiwan and Wuhan, most likely had contracted the virus and infected the family.

So far health authorities have tested 87 people who came in close contact with case 27 for the COVID-19 of which 50 tested negative. Other results are pending.

The virus has infected 30 people in Taiwan so far, killing one.

Earlier Monday, Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (CDC) released an interactive map on its website showing the cities and counties where the country’s 28 coronavirus patients currently reside.

Pending update, Taipei is marked in red, with seven cases listed, the highest number so far.

That is followed by Changhua County and New Taipei City, which have five patients each, and then Taichung with four cases.

Kaohsiung and Naitou County each have two cases to date; Taoyuan, Tainan City, and Yilan County stand at one case each.
