Covid-19: Friday prayers to go on as usual in FT with some changes, says minister

KUALA LUMPUR (The Star/ANN) - Friday prayers to go on as usual says minister

Friday prayers will go on as usual at all mosques in the Federal Territories with just a few changes, says Datuk Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri.

In a statement, the Religious Affairs Minister said sermons will be shorter than usual and the congregation is advised to perform their ablutions at home before performing prayers at the mosque.

“Those showing symptoms of Covid-19 are considered ill and do not need to attend Friday prayers.

“Mosques are also required to make hand sanitisers and masks available to prevent the spread of the disease, ” he said.
Zulkifli said the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, consented to the Friday prayers taking place as usual.

Earlier Friday (March 13), the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail, decreed that Friday prayers across the state be replaced by Zohor prayers at home.

The Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, who is also the president of the Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPS), said the Raja of Perlis issued the decree after obtaining the views and advice from the Health Ministry on Covid-19, as well as irshad (religious guidance) from the Perlis Fatwa Committee.
