RAUB, Malaysia (Sin Chew Daily/ANN) - Musang King durian grown in Raub, Malaysia are likely to be exported by air freight to China on 18 June. PHG Ever Fresh Food (M) Sdn Bhd, a company which involves in processing and packing deep frozen durians are scheduled to deliver the first shipment to China pending the final export procedure.

Frozen whole durian from Raub is likely to be exported to China by air freight on 18 June, marking the official entry of Musang King durians from Malaysia to markets in China.

PHG Ever Fresh Food (M) Sdn Bhd, a company involves in processing deep frozen durians, has received import approval from China. The company is currently making its final preparation for the relevant export permit including permits from The Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry and Health Ministry, said Lai Wei Ting, the shareholder cum supervisor of the company.

“The Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry has come to inspect. All are cleared pending final export procedure, ‘’ said Lai.

He said the date of 18 June is a tentative date set to export durian to China as the company is ready. This will be the first batch of frozen whole durian exported to China pending final confirmation from China.

The company has prepared a total of 4 tonnes of Musang King durians to be exported from Raub to China.

“We have two Musang King durian orchards and these durians from are the two orchards. Main reason for air freight is to ensure durian lovers in China get to savour the fruit fast, ‘’ he said.

The Musang King durians are of premium grade weighing between 1.5kg and 3.5kg each with Malaysian Good Agricultural Practices certification (MyGap).

Lai said durian market in China is huge and the supply of Musang King durian is unable to meet its demand. The company encourages small plantation owners to supply them A grade Musang King durians which are equipped with MyGap certification.

Lai said all durians purchased by the company are to be blown dry, removing the soil and other items on the fruit. The durians are also checked whether they are in good condition

“We would then deep freeze the durians under negative 100 degrees for an hour. They are either packed or placed in freezer pending orders,’’ he said.

Each container will have a QR code to record the details of durians, factory and the exporter. They are to be screened by the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry prior to export, Lai said.

The General Administration of Customs of China paid a visit to the durian orchards and inspected a total of seven factories processing deep freezing of whole durian in Malaysia in April. Only five were given export permit. PHG Ever Fresh Food (M) Sdn Bhd is one of the five factories approved.
