Jaffna missing persons’ families want OMP closed

COLOMBO (The Island/ANN) - Protesters demand closure of the Office of Missing Persons and compensation increased.

A group of people protested, on Saturday (Oct. 12) opposite the Office of Missing Persons (OMP) Office, demanding that it be closed as it had served no purpose.

The protesters also called for a proper compensation scheme as Rs. 6,000 promised to families of the missing persons was insufficient.

A Jaffna based UN official met the protesters to inquire about their grievances.

They said that the government didn’t have to ascertain information as regards the missing persons afresh.
