Junior high school students dressed as miko shrine maidens throw omikuji fortune-telling slips high in the air at Keta Taisha shrine in Hakui, Ishikawa Prefecture, on Saturday. About 200,000 slips, on which 50 variations of fortunes are written, are repeatedly tossed to mix them well. This is done in preparation for the many people who will buy omikuji at the shrine on their first visit of the new year.
