Korean companies eye market opportunities in Laos

VIENTIANE (Vientiane Times) - Eight leading companies from the South Korea are hoping to expand their market and business opportunities in Laos by selling their products here or finding business representatives in Laos.

Business operators from the two countries met for talks in Vientiane last week during the 2019 Chonnam Trade Mission.

The mission was arranged by the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) and took place on Thursday.

Representatives of some of the larger companies in Laos attended the event to discuss the products on offer by the Korean companies as well as hear about their operations. The two sides also talked about the most efficient way to order products from the companies exhibiting their goods on this occasion.

The products offered included general consumer goods, machinery, construction equipment, Korean ginseng, herbal tea, vitamins, supplements, polyethylene and polypropylene, animal feed, and drilling equipment.

The talks aimed to open up the market for Korean producers by finding suitable business partners in Laos.

“This is the first time our company has exhibited our products in Laos and we hope to find a business partner here,” said the Chief Executive Officer of Giunchan Company, Ms Park Jong-Rye.

“Our products include herbal tea, supplements, and vitamins extracted from mushrooms which are good for one’s health. We hope that our products will attract buyers here,” she added.

KOTRA arranges business matching meetings between Laos and South Korea several times a year by inviting Korean companies to Laos, hoping to build business cooperation and opening up markets in Laos.
