Lao, Russian commissions enhance bilateral ties

VIENTIANE (Vientiane Times/ANN) - Laos and Russia have agreed to continue broadening their cooperation in trade, economic, scientific and technical affairs.

The 14th session of the Joint Laos-Russia Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation took place in Vientiane from November 26-27.

During the session, the two parties reviewed the cooperation between Laos and Russia in light of the strong political relationship between the two countries.

The two governments have always attached importance to broadening their relations.

They agreed to boost cooperation in the public and private sectors across a range of fields such as political relations, trade and investment, education, public health, culture, finance and banking, telecommunications and communications, and science and technology.

The two parties decided to cooperate in the fields of education, culture and tourism, which are key to broadening Laos-Russia friendship.

Both sides said they were keen to share knowledge in the fields of science and technology, natural resources and the environment, agriculture, and medical sciences.

Laos’ Minister of Planning and Investment, Dr Souphan Keomixay, and Russia’s Minister of Digital Development, Communication and Mass Media, Mr Konstantin Noskov, signed the contract.

They expressed a wish to strengthen their friendship and broaden cooperation in various fields to promote socio-economic development on both sides.
