Laos-China science and tech expo promotes industrial development

VIENTIANE (Vientiane Times/ANN) - The “Smart Technology for Green and Sustainable Development” exhibition is currently underway in Vientiane to give added impetus to industrial development in Laos. 

The exhibition is taking place at the National Convention Centre from October 11-16 with the participation of about 100 Lao and Chinese enterprises.

The opening ceremony was attended by ministers, deputy ministers, provincial governors and provincial deputy governors along with Lao government officials from various entities, as well as ambassadors to Laos, international representatives, staff from the China Chamber of Commerce to Laos, Chinese government delegations, and Lao and Chinese business operators.  

Technology products on display include those related to electrical technology, metal engineering, drone technology, big data and electronics. There are also innovative products relating to the fields of packaging, agriculture, and medicine, as well as suggestions about ways to boost start-up businesses. 

The exhibition aims to enhance cooperation in science and technology between Laos and China and to promote the transfer and application of successful research with respect to advanced industry 4.0 technologies to increase productivity and product quality.

Several activities are taking place on the sidelines of the exhibition.

They include a workshop on Laos-China cooperation on the development of advanced industrial technology, the 3rd Nationwide Meeting of the Science and Technology Sector, a national meeting on Science and Technology Development in the Industry 4.0 Era, and National Science Week 2019.

A seminar on a Joint Science and Technology Research and Exchange Project was given and an ideas contest for young people and students is taking place, said the Minister of Science and Technology, Prof. Dr Boviengkham Vongdara.

The event is about experience exchange, research, innovation and the use of technology for socio-economic development, he added.

The exhibition provides an exchange and dialogue platform for government sectors, research institutes and enterprises in order to boost the socio-economic development contribution.

Laos and China are strengthening cooperation in science and technology, especially in research cooperation, renewable energy, ecology, bio-technology, technology information, technology education promotion, and human resource development.

Dr Boviengkham said the exhibition would help to attract investment in advanced technological development in Laos and contribute to infrastructure development in science and technology, as well as expanding the Belt and Road Initiative and the shared Laos-China destiny.
