Myanmar exports more than 2.16m tons of rice and broken rice

NAYPYITAW (Eleven Media Group/ANN) - Myanmar is exporting rice to EU and African markets as well as exporting to China via Muse border.

Myanmar exported more than 2.16 million ton of rice and broken rice worth of US$ 650 million in 11 months in current fiscal year, with a decrease by 780,000 tons worth of US$ 350 million, compared with the same period of the previous year, an official of the Ministry of Commerce told the Daily Eleven.

"From October 1 to August 30 of 2018-2019 FY, Myanmar exported 2.164 million tons of rice and broken rice worth of US$ 653.080 million," said the official of the Ministry of Commerce.

In the same period of the previous year, Myanmar exported 2.954 tons of rice and broke rice worth of US$ 1,003.662 million.
During that period, more than US$ 530 million was fetched from the export of 1.7 million tons of rice. This amount decreased by  more than 770,000 tons of rice worth of US$ 330 million, compared with the same period of last year.

Similarly, more than US$ 120 million was realized from the export of nearly 460,000 tons of broken rice. This mount decreased by more than 17,000 tons of broken rice worth of more than US$ 14 million, compared with the same period of the previous year.

Myanmar is exporting rice to EU and African markets as well as exporting to China via Muse border. Myanmar managed to expand new markets by exporting rice to foreign markets in 2017-2018 FY and it exported nearly 3.6 million tons of rice within five decades.

In the current fiscal year, China and EU countries have made few purchases and that result in a reduction in the rice export when it is compared with the previous years.
