TOKYO (The Japan News/ANN) - A winter event to illuminate streets with hundreds of thousands of blue light-emitting diodes (LEDs) is being held in Shibuya Ward, Tokyo, enveloping the area in a festive atmosphere.

A winter event to illuminate streets with hundreds of thousands of blue light-emitting diodes (LEDs) is being held in Shibuya Ward, Tokyo, enveloping the area in a festive atmosphere.

In the “Ao no Dokutsu Shibuya” (Blue grotto Shibuya) event, about 600,000 LEDs illuminate 800 meters of street, stretching from Koen-dori avenue to the avenue lined with zelkova trees in Yoyogi Park from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. every evening.

The portion of the illumination at Yoyogi Park will be held through Dec. 31. The avenue will be illuminated until the next morning after the final day.

Koen-dori avenue will be illuminated through Jan. 14.

Visitors to the event also can enjoy experience-based attractions.

Recently, visitors to the event were seen enjoying strolling along the avenue with zelkova trees or taking pictures.
