Sri Lanka HC allows revision application against magisterial order that granted bail to IGP and former Defence Secretary
COLOMBO (The Island/ANN) - Colombo High Court dismisses Magisterial order which granted bail to IGP Pujith Jayasundera and former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando.
The Colombo High Court yesterday allowed the revision application by the Attorney General and dismissed the Magisterial order which granted bail to IGP Pujith Jayasundera and former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando.
The High Court Bench comprised Colombo High Court Judge Vikum Kaluarachchi.
The IGP and the former defence Secretary are accused of negligence of security duties, which resulted in the Easter Sunday suicide attacks against several churches and hotels.
The IGP was on compulsory leave.
Anura Maddegoda PC appeared as Counsel for the IGP, while Anuja Premaratne PC appeared for Hemasiri Fernando.
Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Pieris appeared for the Attorney General.
The High Court said that the Magistrate had exceeded the magisterial powers in granting them bail. The High Court order was referred to the Magistrate for necessary action.
