UNP asks for explanation from politicians for their sudden change of stand over MCC
COLOMBO (The Island/ANN) - UNP MP questions pro-SLPP politicians Wimal Weerawansa and Udaya Gammanpila why they have decided to support the Millennium Challenge Corporation agreements, a venture they vehemently criticised under the previous government.
UNP MP Kavinda Jayawardana yesterday asked how pro-SLPP politicians Wimal Weerawansa and Udaya Gammanpila could support the Millennium Challenge Corporation agreements, which they had vehemently criticised prior to the presidential election.
Addressing journalists at Sirikotha, Jayawardana said Wimal and Udaya were now telling the masses that seventy percent of the contents were favourable to the country. The Gampaha District UNP parliamentarian demanded that the SLPP duo reveal to the country what the favourable clauses in the agreement were.
He said the SLPP had used the MCC agreement to attack the opposition candidate Sajith Premadasa and the anti-MCC propaganda had immensely contributed to his defeat.
