Security in Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu Districts has been tightened as the nomination period for the general election approaches.
The army has established several new check points and started checking vehicles moving to and from the two districts. Moreover, suspicious vehicles along the A9 road are being checked.
Security forces claim that usually election-related violence is perpetrated by outsiders and thus a large number of people from other parts of the country might be transported to the two districts. This might lead to a spike in election violence.
