Chinese newspaper Sin Chew Daily is distributing a total of 100,000 face masks free of charge to the general public. The face masks are sponsored by the Malaysia chapter of Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) and Fo Guang Shan Malaysia. 

The face masks are distributed to the public at 10am on 3 Feb (Monday) in Sin Chew Daily office in Petaling Jaya and 11 offices nationwide – Johor Bharu, Malacca, Seremban, Klang, Ipoh, Penang, Alor Setar, Kangar, Kuantan, Kota Bharu and Kuala Terengganu.
The face masks are free of charge to those in need of masks.  A person is given seven masks. 

Witnessed by the president of Malaysia Chapter of BLIA He Rui Yu, Ven Jue Cheng, the Chief Abbess of Fo Guang Shan for Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia hands over 83 boxes of face masks to Huang Shao Ming, deputy general manager (management) of Sin Chew Daily.

Sin Chew Daily would be delivering the face masks to its offices nationwide through its lorries. 

Ven Jue Cheng said the face masks are meant for those in need of masks and preventive measures are adopted to curb the spread of coronavirus. 

She also said Fo Guang Shan has mobilised its members throughout the world to chant heat sutra and seek blessings from Goddess of Mercy. Fo Guang Shan and Sin Chew Daily are good partners in times of crisis.

Huang thanked the trust that Fo Guang Shan and the Malaysia Chapter of BLIA on Sin Chew Daily. 

As a media organisation, he said the distribution of face masks helps to increase public awareness on adopting preventive measures to battle against the spread of coronavirus.
